Letter from our Deaconess

Hello Everyone!

I’d like to share a little up-date with you about our children and youth ministries.

Normally during Advent we have a special Family Advent afternoon of crafts, food and fun.  In youth group we typically have service events at the Mustard Seed, parties together and make Christmas crafts and have Advent devotions together.  For Sunday School, we often plan a Christmas concert with the children and have special activities for the children to do as they remember that the best gift at Christmas time is Jesus!  Lots has changed this year because we can’t meet together.

We try to stay connected online.  I lead a class online every day of the week, except Thursday.  Meeting online is good because we can study God’s Word together and stay connected at least a little bit.  But it isn’t the same as seeing people face to face.   I have tried to keep our children connected to the church through online classes, which I know doesn’t work for everyone.  So I decided I would make some Family Advent packages and deliver them to the children’s homes.  I wanted to deliver a little bit of Jesus Joy to their homes.  The packages included some simple crafts and devotions families could do together, like we usually do together at church.  These little goodies were meant to be a small reminder that we love you.  We miss you and we are looking forward to the day when we can worship together again, and have potlucks and games and picnics and celebrate being a family of believers in Jesus.

I also delivered packages to our youth filled with all the materials they would need to do youth events this month from home.  This included calligraphy instructions, paint set for a paint night, a gingerbread house and other devotions and activities.  I’ve included two pictures of me doing my best Santa impression, delivering bags of activities to our Sunday school children and our youth group.  I delivered 20 Sunday School bags and 13 youth bags.   I know this year will be filled with some disappointments and frustrations because we can’t do our regular Christmas celebrations.   Yes, lots has changed this Advent Season.  But we can remember what hasn’t changed.  What hasn’t changed is Jesus’ love, grace and forgiveness!   We pray that God will remind each of us that the best part of Christmas is Jesus.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”  Hebrews 13:8

Peace and Joy to you in our Lord and Savior Jesus!

Kathy
